How often to schedule a massage?

I regularly get the question: "How often should I actually get a massage?". However, the answer is different for everyone. Our advice differs from person to person, it depends on the goal you want to achieve, your physical condition and lifestyle.

I will go through the general recommendations with you later in this article.

IMPORTANT:

  • With a massage on a regular basis, you will notice that your body will respond faster and better to the massages in the long term.

  • Massage is not a panacea that will make your problem disappear after 1 session. Complaints often only get to the point that you seek help after quite some time. Massage also needs time to get the body back in order. 1 hour will not suddenly make the complaints disappear.

1. Massage as part of a healthy lifestyle with sufficient exercise, healthy eating and less stress. Then once a month is enough.

2. For athletes who like to continue training at a good intensity, it is advisable to schedule a massage every 3 to 4 weeks. This way the muscles remain flexible, flexibility is maintained or improved and the training intensity can remain constant.

3. During a stressful period or a period of high intensity, a massage every 1 to 2 weeks is definitely recommended to keep performing. The massage can then provide a necessary moment of relaxation, a reset of body and mind, as it were.

4. If you have chronic pains or muscle tension that does not disappear, a weekly massage for 4 to 6 weeks is a good frequency to start. This gives your masseur and yourself the opportunity to get a good idea of the effect of the massage and to make quick adjustments if necessary. After this period, it can be considered whether or not to continue with the massages, whether or not on a less frequent basis.

5. Do you have an acute problem or would you like extra support during or after a treatment with a doctor or physiotherapist? Then it is advisable to book a massage at least once a week for a period of 3 weeks? After this period there should already be a noticeable difference and you can decide whether or not to continue the massages.

The preceding guidelines are general. Everyone is unique to me, the massages are always tailored to the person we have in front of us.

It is important that you find out what works best for you. I'd love to search with you!
